The following equipment specifications are estimates and it is essential that any hardware upgrade plans and current equipment specifications are confirmed with Mountain Software.
New Client PCs - All new PCs supplied by Mountain Software should be more than adequate. This assumes they are capable of running Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional and Office XP (includes individual applications - Word 2002, Excel 2002, Outlook 2002) or Office 2003 (includes individual applications - Word 2003, Excel 2003, Outlook 2003). Note that sites using the Mountain Software’s Outlook add-in will need to run Outlook 2003 or later.
|
Existing PCs - A minimum spec of 512 mb of memory, 2 Ghz processors running Win 2000 or later and Office XP or later. Note that sites using the Mountain Software’s Outlook add-in will need to run Outlook 2003 or later.
|
Monitors - Graphics adapters should be capable of SVGA output running at a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. Monitors should be a minimum of 17" CRT or 15" LCD
|
Servers - The server system should run one of the following set ups
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Standard Edition, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Windows 2003 Standard Edition, Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005
- or Microsoft SBS 2000 which includes SQL Server (maximum of 30 users given suitable server spec see below)
- or Microsoft SBS 2003 Premium Edition which includes SQL Server (maximum of 30 users given suitable server spec see below)
- or Microsoft SBS 2003 Standard Edition which does not contain SQL server, but can work with MSDE (applies for under 6 users)
All systems will benefit from an additional server dedicated to running SQL Server. Also a separate physical and logical disk drive for the SQL Server log file and a separate physical and logical disk drive for the Operating System page file are recommended.
For SBS based systems the server will have to have a higher specification as it will be running Windows Server, SQL Server and Exchange. Again the use of a separate physical and logical disk drive for the SQL Server log file and a separate physical and logical disk drive for the Operating System page file are recommended.
Network speed should be at least 100mb/s, wireless networks are not recommended or supported.

Low end solution -
Up to 10 concurrent users
Single processor (3.8Ghz), 2Gb RAM, 3 HD in RAID-5 (15Krpm only)
|
Medium solution -
Up to 20 concurrent users
Dual processors (3.8Ghz), 3Gb RAM, 4 HD in 2XRAID-1 (15Krpm only)
[OS & Transaction logs on one disk pair and SQL DB on the other disk pair]
|
High end solution -
For 50+ concurrent users
Dual processors (3.8Ghz), 4Gb RAM, 6 HD in 3XRAID-1 (15Krpm only)
[OS on one disk pair, transaction logs on one disk pair and SQL DB on the other disk pair]
The SQL server should be restricted to only run with SQL and MS Office (Minimum Office XP, preferred 2003)
|
SQL Server software -
The software runs with SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005. If Mountain supply the software then from March 2006 a licence to use SQL Server 2005 will be purchased though SQL Server 2000 may be installed and can be upgraded to SQL Server 2005 at a later date.

N.B. These are estimates and it is essential that any hardware upgrade plans are confirmed with Mountain Software’s Technical Department.
