Sometimes, even with all the correct procedures in place, data tapes can fail through: hardware problems in tape drive leading to corruption of data or unreadable tapes; misalignment of tape drives resulting in backup tapes being unreadable on another server.
Mountain Software offers a comprehensive, secure and cost effective backup verification and archiving service, giving increased protection to your company's data and peace of mind that in the event of a disaster, the information will still be accessible.
Each month we will take one of your data tapes and check it to ensure the tape can be accessed on our servers. Once we have ascertained the tape is readable, the data files are then processed and transferred to our secure server where the data integrity checks begin.
Our experienced team will check the validity of the information to ensure the records derived from the tape are accessible and logically correct. The data is then archived (optional) on to permanent CD-ROM storage, labelled with a unique identifier and stored in our secure area. A letter is then dispatched along with your original backup tape to confirm the status of the process, and the reminder cycle for the next scheduled tape request is set. In the event of a catastrophe, you will only lose data entered or amended since the last back up verification (i.e. one month maximum).
