Mountain Software developed its Criminal Case Management module to assist firms in completing these processes quickly and efficiently.

The Criminal Case Management Module integrates seamlessly with the Mountain Software Practice Management System at matter level and also with the Criminal Billing systems. By drawing through client details and contact information, as well as the Unique File Number (UFN) and Legal Aid combination, the firm can build up a detailed profile for each case and eliminate duplicate data entry.

Easy document production

The module stores information relating to relevant third parties such as Prisons, Counsel and Queen’s Counsel, Probation Offices, Doctors and Social Workers. Once the details have been entered, they can be utilised to facilitate quick and easy production of letters and documents - either using pre-prepared templates via an Agenda (or workflow) or on an ad-hoc basis.

Police station attendances can be added (and time recorded) to provide links to the bail back system in the main diary. Court appearances can be logged for multiple or single offences. Key dates, appointments and tasks can be entered through the module and will appear in the fee earner, department and central firm diaries. Also, details of suspected offences can be logged and reported on for statistical purposes.

A detailed offence log shows the offence date, legal aid indicator and status. Client and non client co-accused details may be entered onto the system.

Diary integration

The Criminal Case Management system integrates with the Mountain Software court diary, allowing bookings of court units and hearing times which can be used in document production. Detailed logs for adjournments, disposal, mode of trial and plea details are also included. Links to court details and related CPS offices help to facilitate the smooth production of documents.
